Writer Highlight: Zimad TD4 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2013/06/writer-highlight-zimad-td4/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=writer-highlight-zimad-td4 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2013/06/writer-highlight-zimad-td4/#comments Fri, 14 Jun 2013 15:11:54 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=4121 South Bronx 1979, Zimad starts what turns out to be a pretty long standing presence in graffitidom. His style is consistent and varies all at the same time. Candylicious colors and smooth, clean, slick lines; if we lived in an animated Miyazaki graffiti world it would look like this. Peep for yourselves…

There’s a wall with Paebak on it. And if not, there’s a train or a light pole or some wind strewn trash. Taking the train through some small West Virginia town and boom, there’s a Paebak throwie trackside on the back of a shed. His style carries the fun and color of a demented circus or cartoon but also generally adheres to a pretty traditional graf letter form and readability. Most importantly, he’s up.

Writer Highlight Special: R.I.P. To Nekst http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/12/writer-highlight-special-r-i-p-to-nekst/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=writer-highlight-special-r-i-p-to-nekst http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/12/writer-highlight-special-r-i-p-to-nekst/#comments Mon, 24 Dec 2012 18:13:39 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=2539 The graffiti world has lost another king, another too young king. I saw something on the internet a couple days ago but waited to believe anything until I talked to someone who actually knew. I didn’t know him personally but it also seemed like there would always be newer and more epic Nekst pieces popping up. He will always be remembered not only as a prolific bomber but for his fair share of pieces and freights and trackside rollers as well. Everything got hit. And got hit BIG.

All I can say is that hopefully in his life and death, there’s a lesson for all. Go big while you got it and live to keep getting it.

This first pic is from a piece done when I was working across the street on the Bowery and the first time I really opened up to him being a major player in doing big things, and doing them in very insanely high profile spots.

Writer Highlight- Sigh http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/09/writer-highlight-sigh-graffiti/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=writer-highlight-sigh-graffiti http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/09/writer-highlight-sigh-graffiti/#comments Fri, 28 Sep 2012 20:21:26 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=1586 For this installment we bring you the southern gentleman, Sigh. It’s funny cuz I came into his work knowing nothing about him and just randomly stumbled upon a piece of his while on a 3 hour stop through Richmond. Then I started seeing him more and more up on freights and realized I’d seen him before. Apparently some haters call him a biter but style is style and what writer didn’t come up copying others until it became their own? Nothing new under the sun. Sigh colors outside the lines and got style and puts in work. Done.

Writing for almost 20 years, he’s broken out of Italy and spread his pigment worldwide, linking up with crews like FX and RWK (Robots Will Kill) while still holding down original crew EAD from Padova. When not vandalizing concrete and brick he’s hitting up canvas and making sculptures which all help to hone his craft. As he says, “Sculpting and painting, but also the photography are, in my opinion, disciplines who helps each other. Everytime i make a sculpture i receive a lot of knowledge about 3D space and shapes, that helps me to paint in a better way. And while i’m painting i develop new ideas for new sculptures. It’s a kind of circle.”
