Wait for it…let it burrow into your head. And just because it’s free doesn’t mean they cheated on the talent, production by Blockhead, Dj Spinna, and more. Big ups to Jeremy Fish for the cover art too. Bacon and eggs.

#1 Rap Song Goodie Mob “Cell Therapy” (Well, 20yrs Ago…) http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2015/11/1-rap-song-goodie-mob-cell-therapy-well-20yrs-ago/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=1-rap-song-goodie-mob-cell-therapy-well-20yrs-ago http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2015/11/1-rap-song-goodie-mob-cell-therapy-well-20yrs-ago/#comments Wed, 25 Nov 2015 18:44:33 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=5820 Who’s that peekin’ in my window???

Goodie Mob. Had a couple great albums and then a couple that just didn’t click once a lead member left to make more good music, some dubious life choices, and some straight up evil shit (the Cosby effect?). But hey, if we transport back 20 years, according to the Billboard charts things were all gravy for the Goodie Mob crew.

Hump Day: Missy Elliot Bounces Back http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2015/11/hump-day-missy-elliot-bounces-back/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hump-day-missy-elliot-bounces-back http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2015/11/hump-day-missy-elliot-bounces-back/#comments Thu, 19 Nov 2015 03:14:15 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=5817 Yea. I was saving this one. Saving it for a day I needed it and what do you know? Hump day seems to be just the right time. Missy Elliot finally comes back with a new single and accompanying video and to no surprise she doesn’t miss a step. Press play.

For a more in depth interview and what she’s up to check out i-D magazine’s exclusive. And for a list of what I love about Missy, she’s-

fun without the vapidness

conscious without the pretension or facade

thuggish without the ignorance

pop without being diluted

feminist without having to scrawl it on her forehead cuz she just IS

a rapper without having to have the prefix “female” affixed to it

Fashioned around Radiohead’s Kid A, WebsterX and Q the Sun pick up the past and drop it in the now. Enjoy.

“Best of” List Time Again…2014 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2014/12/best-of-list-time-again2014/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-of-list-time-again2014 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2014/12/best-of-list-time-again2014/#comments Sat, 13 Dec 2014 15:50:26 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=5780 Why wait until the last week of December to start the Best Of… lists? Love them and hate them, they’re here. And the Passion of the Weiss blog kicks it off with a very, very solid Top 50 Albums of 2014. The list mainly focuses on the hip hop side of things but some R&B, electronica, and rock get thrown in the mix as well (cuz good music is good music). Some notables on the list include Big K.R.I.T., Run the Jewels, Saint Vincent, Has-lo and Castle, Serengeti, FlyLo, Caribou, Amen Dunes, Warpaint, Shabazz Palaces, Open Mike Eagle, and a slew of others you may or may not have heard about.

Check it out in it’s full, naked entirety- HERE.

Big K.R.I.T. seemed a little stale/redundant for a little while but he’s back. Kev Brown is one of the best in the game. There’s The 1978ers from the Mello Music Group camp, killin it. Serengetti pops off some more oddball joints. Then there’s Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic back at it again with another Hail Mary Mallon installment. C’mon.

Two other definite highlights of the week are 18+ and Scarub. Scarub is part of the Living Legends crew and steps up with some real refreshing, new styles. I know nothing of 18+ and never heard of them before but I am definitely digging the off kilter, hip hop, electronic vibes getting sent out by this male/female duo (that overrides the cliche norm that’s come to be expected by such a line up). Do yourself a favor and check out the dopeness of all this week’s releases. Booooowm.
