Smart Fools: Smart Crew X Fool’s Gold

This video is straight dope. Smart Crew and Fool’s Gold come together to promote an upcoming group exhibition. And it shows why Smart Crew is one the illest running Nyc. As hilarious as the video is exposing their sticker bombing tactics, it would also help explain how the manage to stay so up. Must watch.

“Smart Fools” opens tomorrow (Thursday, 12/12) at the Fool’s Gold store on 536 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn with an opening reception from 7-9pm.

Hailing out of France comes a young artist (Flickr profile reads: “Young artist // no kids, no dog but a pretty woman, and a beautiful home”) armed with a fierce arsenal of geometric shapes and color. While most of his creations are living large, literally, on walls of buildings he also has the uncanny ability to transform them into prints that look dope framed on the wall of a living room. As many of us know, this transition doesn’t always translate very well with a lot of graffiti/muralist artists whose work only feels really right when it’s in a very specific urban environment. He’s got a little Doze Green, a little Kid Acne, a little Roa, and a whole bunch of his own style. Police use of “non-lethal weapon” kills teenaged artist

Various outlets ranging from the Miami Herald to the BBC are reporting on how police in Miami Beach chased, surrounded, tased, and ultimately killed an 18-year-old graffiti artist, Israel Hernández-Llach, known as “Reefa”. Some of his work can be seen on Flickr, including in the South Florida graffiti pool.

South Bronx 1979, Zimad starts what turns out to be a pretty long standing presence in graffitidom. His style is consistent and varies all at the same time. Candylicious colors and smooth, clean, slick lines; if we lived in an animated Miyazaki graffiti world it would look like this. Peep for yourselves…

““MODERN GENTRIFICATION” features the work of VATO, WAAK STF and MONEL, Three artist’s all from the developing neighborhood of Bushwick. “Modern Gentrification” tackles the controversial issues that come with the gentrification of working class neighborhoods and how it affects its residents. The artist’s will tackle the issue in their own respective style. “Modern Gentrification” will take place at Burger it up Located at 146 Knicerbocker Ave. Brooklyn, Ny, 11237. The show opens this Friday May 31 2013 and will run through the end of June.”
