We have the largest prison population of any nation in the history of the world. One in three African-American men will go to jail at some point in his life. Imprisoning that many people, most of them for non-violent offenses, doesn’t come cheap, especially when you’re paying private contractors. The United States now spends $50bn on our corrections system every year.”

Guess who was elected in 1980?

Why STEM Education shouldn’t be overlooked.

Suppression as a Political Strategy http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/11/suppression-as-a-political-strategy/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=suppression-as-a-political-strategy http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/2012/11/suppression-as-a-political-strategy/#comments Fri, 02 Nov 2012 22:06:58 +0000 http://commonfolkcollective.com/blog/?p=2052 Taking a hint from their voter suppression strategy. The GOP has now pushed to suppress a report that doesn’t agree with their agenda.

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) is a non-partisan research group that works for Congress to help them with research and analysis. In this case the CSR was asked to see if there is a correlation between top tax rates and economic growth. The CSR found that there was no correlation which doesn’t agree with the Republicans have been saying since Reagan, that “tax breaks for the rich creates jobs and helps the economy.” This theory known by many names, Reagannomics, supply-side economics, trickle-down economics and voodoo economics has been criticized and discredited since it was introduced. Since the study doesn’t agree with the GOP agenda of tax breaks for the rich, instead of dealing with the reality that the theory doesn’t hold water the GOP decided instead to suppress the report.

The GOP is acting like a child who puts his fingers in his ears and scream when you tell him something he doesn’t want to hear.
