Joey Bada$$ is a rapper and an emcee, the kind you wanna chill with and be friends with. And he just dropped a free mixtape, Summer Knights, to bump for those summer days (along with Acid Rap). This joint is just real, not mind numbingly thugged out and not overly intellectualized but still deep and laced with some gems, everyday observations become poignant pieces of art. Not only does this kid got something to say but he’s got a dope and innovative way of saying it as well.

Flavorwire gives a big helping hand this week by offering up a post “20 Great Albums You Can (Legally) Download for Free Right Now.” Some of the groups I’ve heard and some I’ve only heard of. But it’s a pretty good looking list including David Byrne and St. Vincent, Dj Food, Captain Murphy, Death Grips, Clams Casino, and more.

When things get stagnant you gotta stir them up. Enter the freshness that is Chance the Rapper. I admittedly hadn’t heard of this Chicago emcee before but when I stumbled across this project and saw it was backed by Twista, Childish Gambino, Action Bronson, and Ab-Soul with some production by Jake One and Dj Ozone among others, I figured he had to be solid. Acid Rap is solid, different, and great, a definite download and something that’ll get heavy rotation all summer.
