This week’s Hip Hop releases are just straight solid, good for you, treatises of boom bap. Big K.R.I.T. seemed a little stale/redundant for a little while but he’s back. Kev Brown is one of the best in the game. There’s The 1978ers from the Mello Music Group camp, killin it. Serengetti pops off some more oddball joints. Then there’s Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic back at it again with another Hail Mary Mallon installment. C’mon.

Two other definite highlights of the week are 18+ and Scarub. Scarub is part of the Living Legends crew and steps up with some real refreshing, new styles. I know nothing of 18+ and never heard of them before but I am definitely digging the off kilter, hip hop, electronic vibes getting sent out by this male/female duo (that overrides the cliche norm that’s come to be expected by such a line up). Do yourself a favor and check out the dopeness of all this week’s releases. Booooowm.

Yea. Apollo Brown and Ras Kass gotta be good. It is. Run the Jewels, yes. Some Black Milk. Budos Band on some eery psych rock outing. Dj Koze (I loved his last album). Flight Facilities’ “Crave You” easily gets stuck in my head, in a good way. And Quintron is a go to Nola weirdo. Yea.

Run The Jewels 2, Free Early Download!

rtj2_header

Jaime and Mike (El-P and Killer Mike) are blessing us twice with a free, early download of their second album (I guess that technically makes it three things). Their concept is simple, make good music to give out for free and if you like it and want to support then you’ll buy a physical copy and/or go to their shows. Legit.

Grab the whole album of Run The Jewels 2. Buy merchandise. And check their tour schedule.

And big ups to Mass Appeal Records for putting them down.

A new week. Another week when it starts getting darker earlier. But I digress. Diamond District, Dj Js-1, Sims (Doomtree), I’ve got high hopes for these releases. Diamond District is helmed by Oddisee and pretty much anything he touches is solid. Dj Js-1 is a Rock Steady Crew dj and his releases are like an x-ray into the backbone of hip hop, just check out the roster of heavy hitters that come out to make all new music with him.

Then there’s some other releases from folks I’m not too familiar with, like Kele’s (Bloc Party) solo stuff. And the other stuff that I’ve never heard of but has somehow in one way or another piqued my interest. Open/shut.
