Watching the Wheels

Is it a gross generalization that a lot of 80s-90s punks/anarchists have retreated into authentico lifestyles that revolve around making handmade shit whether it be organic pizza or deer antler iPhone cases? Etsy seems to have sprouted, somewhat, from zine fairs. Sander Hicks started Soft Skull Press and was famously kicked out after he nearly bankrupted the company with the publication of Fortunate Son. Now Sander is a carpenter. A lot of the radicals of the 60s went “back to the land” after all the tumult. Maybe it’s a natural thing.

President Obama, Rush Limbaugh, Jay-Z and Kid Rock Walk into a Bar

Rush Limbaugh was outraged that President Obama has appeared with Jay-Z at campaign events and thinks that because of Jay-Z’s lyrics the Office of the President has been disgraced.

There are a few points that need to be made. First the lyrics that are called into question are something that Rush should be celebrating.

I’ve got the Rap Patrol on the gat patrol
Foes that wanna make sure my casket’s closed
Rap critics that say he’s “Money, Cash, Hoes”
I’m from the hood stupid, what type of facts are those?
If you grew up with holes in your zapatos
You’d celebrate the minute you was having dough

In the first two lines Jay-Z is asserting his 2nd Amendment right to bear arms protecting himself against people who want to kill him. That is something that Rush supports.

The second part of which Rush only quotes the first few lines is about Jay-Z receiving criticism saying that Jay-Z only raps about “Money, Cash, Hoes” to which he rebuts by explaining if you grew up poor and worked your way to the top you’d also start celebrating once you started making money. Another Rush ideal of if you work hard you should make money.

Lastly, even if Mitt had won he hung out with Kid Rock.
