Tuesday Forecast- New Music Releases

Because I hate the world I had to include the Anthrax album of them doing all covers. Hahaha. Yes, covers of bands like AC/DC, Rush, etc. Have fun with that. On a more serious note, The Lions are showing up again but this time it’s a box set of 45′s of their whole album. Also seems like more and more artists are releasing their music in physical form earlier than the mp3 versions. Makes sense. Not so much going on in hip hop releases, whattup? Anyway, here-

The Future Now: What 1988 Thought 2013 Would Be Like

future la

I distinctly remember watching The Jetsons and being blown away by the concept of the video phone. No way could it ever happen, I just couldn’t conceive of that possibility. Boom. The future is here. It’s always fun to think about the future and what kind of utopia/distopia it’ll bring and that’s just what the Los Angeles Times Magazine did in 1988, they created an issue that was all about what the world would be like in 2013. TheAtlanticWire.com takes a good look at that issue and breaks down where they hit the mark and where they were just writing science fiction.

Check out the the whole thing here.

(I should also add I had a good friend who wrote in his college entrance essay about how he needed to get a degree so he could get a good job so he could afford a flying car cuz in the future we’ll have flying cars and…)

Matchbook Paintings- Joseph Martinez

joseph martinez

Matchbooks have for one reason or another always been kind of an odd, kitschy collectors item. I suppose they’re like little mementos of all the bars/restaurants your seedy ass has patronized, like little trophies. Well, if you’re in SF you can go check out some matchbooks that are literally works of art. Public Barber Salon (571 Geary) is hosting a show by Joseph Martinez called A Little Piece of the Bay that is all oil paintings done on the insides of matchbooks. On top of that they’re of heroes and friends of his such as Sam FloresMike Giant, and Barry McGee. Collectables for sure.

Google Reader Is Shutting Down

For any of you miscreants still using google reader get ready to feel like an unwanted child daddy leaves behind; it’s getting shut down. Luckily, for me, they actually gave a little heads up before pulling the plug so I can try and save all the links I got up in there. From google, “To ensure a smooth transition, we’re providing a three-month sunset period so you have sufficient time to find an alternative feed-reading solution. If you want to retain your Reader data, including subscriptions, you can do so through Google Takeout.” The “retirement” date is July 1st.

Map Of The Stars: UK Edition

This is a great concept executed by James Chapman and essential for any fan of music to come out of the UK, which is quite a bit. It always amuses me the amount of times people (myself included) get caught off guard and are like “Wait! They’re from there and not from the good ol’ U.S. of A?! Enjoy.
