Popular Doesn’t Mean Good

Spotify suggested this today:

Straight up now tell me do I really want to oppress forever.

Straight up now tell me do I really want to oppress forever.

Hey Spotify,

Apartheid was popular when I was in high school as well, it doesn’t mean I want to relive it.

Thanks,

Smart Fools: Smart Crew X Fool’s Gold

This video is straight dope. Smart Crew and Fool’s Gold come together to promote an upcoming group exhibition. And it shows why Smart Crew is one the illest running Nyc. As hilarious as the video is exposing their sticker bombing tactics, it would also help explain how the manage to stay so up. Must watch.

“Smart Fools” opens tomorrow (Thursday, 12/12) at the Fool’s Gold store on 536 Metropolitan Avenue in Brooklyn with an opening reception from 7-9pm.

December. Music. Childish Gambino is back, firming up his presence as a serious rapper, as opposed to a rapper/actor. And then you got the rapper’s rappers like Roc Marciano and Jamall Bufford aka Buff 1 from the Athletic Mic League. As for the Luck and Lana release, there’s going to be a lot of flack that it’s not boom bap, backpacker hip hop. And it’s not. But in general I would think fans of Luckyiam.Psc and Living Legends would have a little bit more of an open mind, give it a chance, and let it sink in a bit before judging. This week also includes some candy electro a la miami vice/Drive soundtrack and some pretty interesting post-punk/alt-rock/good music/whatever you want to call it. Done.

So. Some new hip hop from CanOx and Rapper Big Pooh from Little Brother are a given at the front of the list. Then there’s some realrapcats I haven’t heard before, Hopsin and Lone Ninja, but are solid good ol’ hip hop. Moving beyond that is the crazy, weirdo, and electronic stylings of bEEdEEgEE who is from a definite favorite GangGangDance and whose weirdness is matched by another release from Xiu Xiu. Yep. Drop in, tune out. Drop out, tune in.
