Tuesday Forecast

First things first, Cibo Matto! It’s been 15 years, and while Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda have been busy in the meantime, it makes this boy very happy to see them come back together.

Hip Hop: Galapagos4 is the little indie Chicago label the could, putting out consistent, quality, creative Hip Hop. They just put out another Qwazaar & Batsauce project. SelfJupiter (Freestyle Fellowship) also reappears with a new album as Burgundy Fats. Buck 65 drops another quirky, not-in-a-box Bike For Three! one.

Electronic, Atmospheric, Geeky, Synthesizer: Illum Sphere and Poemss are two groups I’m unfamiliar with but am a bit excited about. And I’m really excited about Tinariwen, a band that had to leave Mali and recorded this in the states, just go listen. For the synth fans and geeks, Solvent’s album is music from the documentary I Dream of Wires.

Singer/Songwriter, Quirky, Electro-pop, Indie, Jazz, Blues, Psychedelic: Nostalgia 77 and Zara Macfarlane are on some contemporary but throwback Jazz and Blues that I’m really digging. Same for Temples with their 60s, Psych sound. There’s also some more moody, creative, singer/songwriter type joints that aren’t usually my thing but hey, good music is good music.

There’s also a pretty great Punk compilation that focuses on across the pond, the first one did the same for stateside.

Well our musician friends are slowly but surely starting to release music again after the holiday/new year lull. I’m a pretty big fan of Lee Bannon’s never-know-what-to-expect hip hop and this week also sees another release from the stalwarts of modern funk/soul Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings (who I like despite having a girlfriend make out with another guy at one of there shows, I think their music and the ten years have healed those wounds, haha). And let’s not forget the Pixies, they pop up for the second ep since their reunion.

Weekend Listening: Lee Bannon “Place / Crusher” Ep

Ninja Tune hits us off with a free download in anticipation of an upcoming full length from Lee Bannon. Lee Bannon? Probably one of those best producers you’ve never heard of types, but he’s been around for a minute. You should also check out his album Fantastic Plastic on Plug Research featuring some Del the Funky Homosapien and Chuck Inglish (The Cool Kids).

Tuesday Forecast

This week is a bit rag-tag genre-wise as well as new and tried & true. Brother Ali is back and already causing ‘controversy’ over praying on the american flag. Gasp! Sigh. But it’s always a great day when there’s new stuff from all time fav Kid Koala! I’ve also been waiting for the Homeboy Sandman release, even copped the Homeboy hat in the Knicks colorway. There’s also a Tribute to Repo Man. I can’t vouch for the tribute but I will say the original soundtrack is ridiculously classic.

Tuesday Forecast- Front of the Crates

This week the obvious stand out seems to be EL-P’s new one Cancer 4 Cure. I’m  also looking forward to a listen to Casual’s (Hieroglyphics) new one. And for you Madlib heads, a special box set of all 13 Medicine Show cd’s, honestly though I’ll probably pass on that cuz he just went overkill and I lost interest. Finally, Bruce Haack Remixes. Definitely.
