Go Skateboarding Day, June 21st!!!! And Klughaus Pop-Up Shop
June 21st is Go Skateboarding Day. No matter where you are, grab your board and go. But if you’re in nyc it’s definitely an amazing experience to skate with so many thousands. This is definitely the year’s best holiday. Check the site to see what’s going on near you.
Also in collaboration with Go Skateboarding Day Klughaus gallery is doing a pop up shop. I’m really sad to miss this one especially since there’s going to be a bunch of dope art/graffiti zines only sold there. Check out their site for all the brands and artists participating.
Song of the Week- Special Re-Do and Remix Edition
It’s hot. It’s the middle of the week. So we bring you temporary relief with Matt & Kim’s “Daylight.” It may ride that fine line of cute, cheesy, and poppy but damnit it makes us feel good. And in honor of that here’s a couple re-do’s and remixes.
First a stop motion video remake shot in Tokyo-
And our favorite remix from the Common Folk homies, NinjaSonik (wait for the surprise ending)-
“Tastes like chicken even though it’s not”
And of course, the original and the De La Soul Remix- Read more
Adidas Cancels the JS Roundhouse Mid
Adidas put up a pic of the new Jeremy Scott designed shoes on their facebook and soon after canceled their release for later this summer. Apparently there were quite a few cries of racism claiming the shoes call to mind the shackles of slaves. Jeremy Scott says they were inspired by My Pet Monster and that all his designs are “inspired by cartoons, toys & my childhood.”
I say “eh.” If someone is gonna wear those or any other Jeremy Scott designed shoes, that’s on them. I know better, I could never pull off a pair. I also think a lot more emphasis should be placed on the slave like conditions of many shoe companies themselves rather than the toy-like shackle design. Just sayin. Calling the shoes ‘racist’ is also narrow minded thinking, perhaps ‘inhumane’ would be more appropriate if anything considering slavery has affected all creeds, color, and race.
