Tuesday Forecast- New Music Releases

To start it off, Aceyalone drops a new one. Crossing my fingers it’s more All Balls Don’t Bounce/Book of Human language than the sadly mediocre Lightning Strikes but regardless he’s still a top emcee. The individuals in Ugly Heroes (Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, Red Pill) haven’t been in the game quite as long but they’ve all paid their dues, this should be a great straight up hip hop gem. And did you hear Tricky’s got a new one out? Yep, he does indeed. Also check out some chill instrumental electro-soul from detroit, blues-funk from africa, and some other audio weirdness including lo-fi surf punk from New Zealand via L.A. Cheers.

Sad Day For New Orleans: Hubig’s Pies Burns to the Ground

Fire at Hubig’s Pies

Damn. One of the world’s greatest cities can only take so much. Hubig’s Pies has been an iconic institution of New Orleans since 1922 but early Friday morning it burned to the ground. Truly sad. Hubigs was still in its original building located in the historic Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. Luckily, in true Nola style, there has been an outpouring of support and the owners are already planning a come back. From the website-

On behalf of the Hubig’s  Pies family we would like to thank
everyone for all of the love and support we have received throughout the years and during this difficult time…We are blessed to be part of such a resilient community and we send our immense     gratitude to all of the first responders who “put this out with their tears.” We will continue to update you on our progress. “REBUILD RESTORE REHUBIG’S, WE WILL NOT LOSE OUR FLAVOR!

With Love, The Bowman and Ramsey Families.

Go to their online store and buy a t-shirt or a sweatshirt and support the reHubig-ing.

Weapon of Mass Instruction Art Car

Sometimes people have crazy ideas. Sometimes people have lots of drive. Rarely someone has both. When I come across things like this I actually start to believe we can, as individuals or as a group, really change lives and make living livable. Awesome.

From MakeZine.com-

“Raul Lemesoff, an Argentine art-car artist, has taken a 1979 Ford Falcon that used to belong to the Argentine armed forces and turned into a ‘Weapon of Mass Instruction.’ Armed with 900 or so books Lemesoff travels the streets of Buenos Aires and beyond offering free books to all. He sees his ‘Weapon of Mass Instruction’ as a “contribution to peace through literature.”
