Amp Live: Kaleidoscope Theory Ep (Free Download)

AmpLive-ColorEP

Download “Kaleidoscope Theory”

Amp Live, also a member of Zion I, has always been a forward thinking producer pushing the envelope of Hip Hop/Electronic music. He’s a precursor to the whole Flying Lotus phenomena and I’m always hyped to hear what he puts out next (even if there’s a few lemons here and there). This is a free Ep put out by Plug Research (who despite having some great artists has absolute horrid customer service) in anticipation of a full length this fall.

And if you haven’t already, definitely be sure to check out Amp Live’s “RainyDayz Remixes” album featuring Too $hort, Del, and Chali2na, that is a near perfect remix of Radiohead’s “In Rainbows.”

Song of the Week, Quelle Chris- “RatShit”

Quelle Chris (Mello Music Group) reminds me of a more straight ahead hip hop version of Ninja Sonik; young, dumb, and fun. And it should go without saying that there’s no other way to take that but positive. Cuz “looking for work is work.” Now go make that ratshit ass clap…clap, clap, clap.

Song of the Week: Ruthless Bastards

If I’m a bastard, then you’re a bastard, everybody’s a bastard. This is one of those 12″ records I picked up in ’97 not knowing anything about it, something just urged me to snatch it up. And damn. Apparently I wasn’t the only one to notice cuz the Wu put ‘em up on one of their Killa Bees comps (But apparently didn’t do much for them after that).

“Frontin like he hard, dunn, he must’ve ate some thug cookies”

Two Free Album Downloads: Four Tet & MaG

Four Tet gifts us with a free album download 0181, recorded between ’97-’01. Granted it’s a one file mp3, beggars can’t be choosers and I’m never mad when he puts out some new music. Now I just need all the MF Doom remixes.

MaG also hits us with a free album download and while I can’t vouch for his craft personally I’m banking on the word of Mick Boogie, who hosts the LP and usually doesn’t throw his weight behind some slackers. RcrdLbl calls him an “ambitious, declarative and sprawling, MaG smashes through the rap wall and announces his presence as a refreshing new voice in New York hip-hop…”

Song of the Week- Homeboy Sandman “Not Really”

Homeboy Sandman is starting to be the appreciated under-appreciated MC. But is this fame and fortune changing our grounded homie? Not really.

“Clear channel Fm can kiss my ass cheek/ I said that last year, I said that last week.”

BaoHaus X Sophia Chang Art Collabo

Atmosphere and an appeal to the senses are everything next to taste when it comes to a restaurant and BaoHaus has got it on lock (yes this also applies to dingy hole in the walls, you know that adds to the experience). Not only does their in house playlist consist of classic hip hop from the 80′s to the naughts (classic doesn’t gotta mean old) which they post online but they also take care of your sense of sight while taking care of your sense of taste.

Enter their art collabo with Sophia Chang. She tackles the Bun Bao experience with a perfect combination of cute and hardcore, taking the bun and spittin out  a hip hop pun. I’ll let her work speak for itself…with assistance by the lyrics of Action Bronson, Tribe Called Quest, Camron, Juelz Santana, and more.
