Happy Birthday

If the phrase “a brother from another mother” had an archetypical example it would be Thos and I. From when we cheated off of each other in geometry class to finishing each other’s sentences in college to today. I’ve not had a closer friend, we’ve seen each other through the best and the worst. Shit, it says a lot to share an efficiency in NOLA in August and not get on each others nerves. So it is with the greatest pleasure that I’m glad I’ve shared another year on planet Earth with you and I look forward to many more.

Happy birthday Tom.

Vegan Bounce

Ralf Hütter, of Kraftwerk, recently told Sash Frere-Jones, of The New Yorker, that he let the audience play Kraftwerk’s keyboard, in concert, “to show them that anyone could make electronic music.” The following is a track composed by “someone” and is not, per se, electronic music. But the insane coupling of The Smiths and New Orleans bounce can be traced to the industrial revolution that Kraftwerk championed. Anyone with a network connection and software can and do. And I can’t stop listening. As SoundCloud commenter “dj_moon” wrote, “Oh no you didn’t LOL!”

Song of the Week- Quakers “Fitta Happier”

More Brass bands in Hip Hop. They did this one for my birthday (tomorrow the 24th). Really, they did it just for me. This is what happens when you give portishead producers a 35 piece hip hop collective band and various emcee’s.

Tuesday Forecast- Front of the Crates

This week the obvious stand out seems to be EL-P’s new one Cancer 4 Cure. I’m  also looking forward to a listen to Casual’s (Hieroglyphics) new one. And for you Madlib heads, a special box set of all 13 Medicine Show cd’s, honestly though I’ll probably pass on that cuz he just went overkill and I lost interest. Finally, Bruce Haack Remixes. Definitely.

Monday Maxim- Get Yours

"I said you're the type of girl that I can't pass over
Give me one chance and I'll bend your ass over
Just call me the plumber at the end of the night
Cause a nigga like me'll lay plenty of pipe
She didn't get offended it was splendid to me
Cause mister nice guy is what I pretended to be
I guess I just wine her and dine her
And by the end of the night I'll be behind her
Waxing that ass like Rain Dance"

Ice Cube, “I’m Only Out For One Thang” Amerikkka’s Most Wanted

Sometimes its fine for two consensual adults to just get buckwild without a lot of baggage. And men, it really is splendid when an independent woman doesn’t get offended but two things: 1) don’t push it and 2) don’t ever underestimate or be surprised by a women’s right/want to hit it just as much as you.
