Tuesday Forecast 03.11.2014

Well, change isn’t always good. We love supporting artists and giving you a direct link to buy their music at Amazon (which also gives us a little kick back to put towards our web hosting costs) but they have recently changed their embedding code and it’s all sorts of messed up. So until the formatting quirks get ironed out things are going to be a bit visually janky. But please, still check out the music, there is same great stuff coming out.

Tuesday Forecast

First things first, Cibo Matto! It’s been 15 years, and while Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda have been busy in the meantime, it makes this boy very happy to see them come back together.

Hip Hop: Galapagos4 is the little indie Chicago label the could, putting out consistent, quality, creative Hip Hop. They just put out another Qwazaar & Batsauce project. SelfJupiter (Freestyle Fellowship) also reappears with a new album as Burgundy Fats. Buck 65 drops another quirky, not-in-a-box Bike For Three! one.

Electronic, Atmospheric, Geeky, Synthesizer: Illum Sphere and Poemss are two groups I’m unfamiliar with but am a bit excited about. And I’m really excited about Tinariwen, a band that had to leave Mali and recorded this in the states, just go listen. For the synth fans and geeks, Solvent’s album is music from the documentary I Dream of Wires.

Singer/Songwriter, Quirky, Electro-pop, Indie, Jazz, Blues, Psychedelic: Nostalgia 77 and Zara Macfarlane are on some contemporary but throwback Jazz and Blues that I’m really digging. Same for Temples with their 60s, Psych sound. There’s also some more moody, creative, singer/songwriter type joints that aren’t usually my thing but hey, good music is good music.

There’s also a pretty great Punk compilation that focuses on across the pond, the first one did the same for stateside.

Tuesday Forecast (Now on Tuesday!)

I’m on time this week folks.

Hip Hop: Prince Po (Organized Konfusion) & Oh No (Madlib fam) come through with a collab I’m excited about. MMG put out vol. 2 of their Mandala series that features their damn stellar stable of artists. And while I don’t know Johaz, I know Exile is on point so their Dag Savage project comes with high expectations (they also feature some real dope friends). Young Fathers is another group that pops up here and there that don’t seem to get the glory they deserve but also doesn’t seem like that bothers them much either way.

Alt, Indie, Electro, Experimental, Etc.: Xiu Xiu at it again. And again. Broken Bells (Dangermouse & James Mercer of The Shins) drop their second. Sunn 0)))/Ulver is interesting, real interesting. Bombay Bicycle Club too, with another one. Enjoy.

Tuesday Forecast…Whaaa?

How come no one on my counsel informed me it was Tuesday yesterday?! Blasted. Ah well, I have everyone to blame but myself.

Straight forward Hip Hop: the a-bit-out-there Memphis rapper Cities Aviv. Snowgoons, from across the pond featuring about every rapper to make underground, teenage boy fans wake up with a weird unexpected sticky substance in their drawers.

Left field, Instrumental based Electronica, Hip Hop, Boom Bip, what have you: Bibio, Actress, Clouded Slum.

The rest: some nice bubble gum, indie, girl group Habibi; Singer/Songwriter, Patsy Cline-esque Eleni Mandell (with some clarinet thrown in for good measure), A Plus from Hiero Crew goes a bit experimental with a heavily EDM based record as Compound 7; classic Dum Dum Girls return; a surprise like in the not known to me until now, Hospitality; Supreme Cuts (also from across the pond) get down with a little Electronic, sample, R&B, EDM, Soul, Pop, Funk; and when it’s time to chill, Gem Club.

Tuesday Forecast

Welcome to yet another week. Very excited about the Step Brothers (Evidence & Alchemist) album, both are solid on their own but when together garnish a special kind of chemistry. I’m definitely weary of the new Smif N Wessun reggae album but will have to give it a listen out of respect, hopefully it’ll fare better than Aceyalone’s reggae tinged misstep. Then there’s some great UK sample based hip hop, psych/jazz from norway’s Bushman’s Revenge, some straight forward jazz with Jeremy Pelt, latin jazz/funk/soul, some Mazzy Star type Warpaint indie, and another great re-issue from the Minneapolis based Secret Stash Records (who I just got turned on to by a fine ass young lady through a holiday gift). There’s some stuff going on, dig through.
